Computed tomography, also referred to as a CT scan, CAT scan, or computerised axial tomography, uses several X-rays to create a 3-D image. It enables doctors to examine internal organs and assists in the diagnosis of conditions like cancer and wounds like fractures. A CT scan provides more information while requiring less invasive procedures than some other imaging tests. It might be used, for example, in some situations to complete a biopsy. An injectable or ingestible type of dye called contrast may be used to aid technicians in seeing a body process more clearly. CT scanning of the abdomen may be used to detect tumours in the liver, kidney, or pancreas or to investigate the causes of urinary tract bleeding (hematuria). A CT scan of the head and brain may be used to look for tumours, haemorrhages, bone trauma, blood flow obstruction, and brain calcification (often present in dementia and Parkinson's disease patients).
